Beginner · French A1

French for the life you're moving towards.

A structured small-group programme for adults who need French to move abroad, get the job or build a career. Sara's students have reached the level they needed in 5 to 9 months.

  • 200+ students taught
  • Max. 10 per class
  • Refund after the first class
Who this is for

Built for people with a reason to learn.

Our strongest results come from students who needed French for something real. If that's you, you're in the right place.

This is for you if

  • You're moving to France, Belgium, Switzerland or Canada and want to handle daily life on your own
  • A job, promotion or interview depends on your French
  • You're a student building your career and know French will matter later
  • You've tried apps or random lessons and stalled
  • You can commit to two classes a week

It's probably not for you if

  • You want a casual, no-commitment hobby
  • You're looking for the cheapest option available
  • You already speak French at intermediate level (see B1 and B2)
  • You can't attend live and won't watch the recordings
Where A1 takes you

By the end of A1, you'll be able to

Each level is the foundation for the next. Nothing you learn is wasted.

  • Introduce yourself and talk about your work, family and plans
  • Handle everyday situations: shops, cafés, appointments, directions
  • Understand clear, slow spoken French
  • Read and write short messages and simple emails
  • Ask questions and keep a basic conversation going
The Geneva Method

A system, not a collection of lessons.

Here's what that means, using one sentence you'll need in your first week abroad.

JeIvoudraiswould like (the polite form)un café,anything you needs'il vous plaît.please

One pattern, not one phrase. Learn Je voudrais + anything once and you can use it at the café, the bank and the town hall.

Why most people stall

It's not you. It's the method.

Language apps

Streaks, not speaking.

You collect words but can't build a sentence when someone actually talks to you.

Random lessons

No path.

Every class covers something new, nothing connects, and you never know if you're progressing.

Studying alone

No one to speak to.

Grammar books explain the rules. They can't correct you or make you say it out loud.

What works is structure, real practice and someone telling you exactly what to fix next.

No risk

We'd rather you join with confidence than hesitate. Attend the first lesson, and if it isn't what you expected, tell us and we'll refund you.

Questions

Before you decide.

I'm a complete beginner. Is A1 right for me?

Yes. A1 starts from zero. If you'd like a gentler start with pronunciation and survival phrases first, look at our A0 Starter. Not sure? Write to us and we'll tell you honestly which level fits.

What if I miss a class?

Every class is recorded and shared with the group, so you can catch up before the next session.

I'm not in Europe. Does the schedule work for me?

Classes are at 10:00 Lisbon time on Wednesdays and Saturdays. From November that's 5:00 in New York and Toronto, 2:00 in Los Angeles and 21:00 in Sydney. If the time doesn't work for you, join the waitlist for future cohorts.

Will I get an official certificate?

You'll receive a certificate of completion from Geneva Institute. It isn't an official DELF/DALF diploma, but the programme follows the same CEFR levels, so it prepares you for them.

How fast will I reach the level I need?

It depends on your goal and how much you practise. Sara's past students reached the level they needed in 5 to 9 months. For most relocation and job goals, that's B1 or B2.

What happens after A1?

A1 students get priority places in the A2 cohort, so you can continue without a gap.

Your move starts with A1.
